The Purpose of P.O.P
Pulsating Organ Perfusion — P.O.P — enables realistic training for minimally invasive surgical procedures. It helps surgeons develop practical skills in a controlled, reproducible training environment.
P.O.P ensures Patient Safety
P.O.P. supports structured training before procedures are performed on patients. The system can be used with animal organs or organ complexes in a wide range of surgical disciplines, including:
- abdominal surgery: liver, gallbladder, small intestine, colon, spleen, etc.
- thoracic surgery: heart, lungs, aorta
- urological surgery: kidney, ureter, adrenal gland
- vascular surgery: aorta, arteries and veins
- gynaecological surgery: adnexa, cysts, etc.
Functional Principle of the P.O.P Trainer
P.O.P. creates realistic perfusion conditions by connecting the central artery of an animal organ or organ complex to the trainer’s pump system. A coloured perfusion medium is pumped into the organ at an electronically controlled frequency of approximately 65 pulses per minute and a pressure of up to approximately 140 mmHg.
The organ is positioned on a perforated metal grid, while the perfusion fluid returns to the trainer via arterial side branches, veins and parenchymal lesions. This allows users to experience realistic bleeding behaviour during training.

Technologies commonly used in clinical practice — including monopolar and bipolar high-frequency surgery, lasers, ultrasound dissectors and aqua dissectors — can be used with the P.O.P. simulation trainer.
